Dan Arriaga

Music Supervisor / Licensing

I have over 20 years of building strong working relationships in the music, film and television industries.

I specialize in music supervision and music clearance, in addition to music licensing of a select group of artists. After working on numerous film and television productions, in addition to record labels and music publishers, I started working as a music supervisor on several reality series for MTV. This involved incorporating multitudes of music to each production I worked on, not only selecting up to 60 music cues per episode, but also the music clearance (while working within very tight deadlines and music budgets).Soon afterward, the producers of Shrek at Dreamworks Animation Productions called and I was hired to consult for the music selection of Shrek The Third. This led to the eagerly anticipated ABC Christmas special Shrek The Halls and a handful of other Dreamworks Animation Productions including Madagascar 2 and Bee Movie. My first independent project was a documentary film for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, Traces Of The Trade: A Story From The Deep North. The film was nominated for the Official Sundance Jury Prize and received many other industry accolades. The project required choosing appropriate music for the sensitive nature of the film, and the challenging task of licensing such artists as U2, Johnny Cash, Harry Belafonte and others within a three week deadline. I was able to license each of these artists and still come under budget.

About Me

I began my career in music by working in marketing with the acclaimed boutique record label 4AD. My love for this label, its artists, and its branding through artwork was where I developed a deep-hearted passion for music and its potential marriage to film and television.A position on the Emmy Award winning television drama ER is where I began to couple my experience with music and television. With a little help from my mentor, Ann Kline, the music supervisor for ER and John Wells productions, I soon learned I had a very natural and effortless knack and passion for music supervision.
